ABOUT THE FIREPIPE STOVE
At the end of October 2022, Gustav Widström watched the news, which reported on the situation in Ukraine. He realized that the Ukrainians needed to cook over an open fire. Understanding the urgent situation, he went out to the shed and folded a stove that he had developed for humanitarian efforts a few years earlier.
The stove was developed based on a cut & fold solution where they are punched out of a flat sheet of metal. The thought of Ukraine, combined with the flat-pack solution, sparked the desire to investigate whether it was possible to develop a new stove for the needs in Ukraine based on the same principle. All with the goal to enable delivery of large of quantities of stoves to Ukraine in a short period of time.
Gustav contacted Operation Aid to see if they were interested in the concept, and the response was positive. He also contacted two large suppliers in the Swedish automotive industry as well as RISE, which also liked the idea. During the first week of November, Gustav sketched out a proposal for a stove based on the same cut & fold and flat-pack solution, with the premise that it would fit on a transport pallet. After a few hours there was a possible proposal. After six weeks of product development and testing at RISE, the group was ready with a first model that was delivered to Ukraine through Operation Aid for evaluation. The stove can be used for both warming and cooking.
